“I Didn’t Come Here to Get Skinny…”

I made it home in time tonight to catch the tale-end of The Biggest Loser.  There was a sentence spoken by one of the contestants during her final workout before the big weekly weigh-in.  She stated, “I didn’t come here to get skinny, I came here to get strong“.

Poignant.

The contestants on this show are in an extreme position, in which they are extremely obese, and weight loss is most definitely critical to their longevity; However, they are not that different from us…

After making this statement, this contestant stated that she needed to be strong because of the fact that she had children at home; children who are athletes, and she needed to be strong to be in their lives longer.

Depending on your current health condition, weight loss and strengthening may not be as critical as it is for this woman,  but nevertheless, it is absolutely correlated to your quality of life.

To improve your health, just for one second, stop the fixation with aesthetics, and focus on getting stronger, getting faster, getting more flexible….

Focus on your health in order to get healthier~~strange concept, I know.

When you stop focusing so much on the scale, and more on performance, you’ll be surprised the changes that transpire.

So true, that is exactly what I said two plus years ago when I signed up for Crossfit (*see testimonial). I knew the weight would come off as long as I moved my body to get stronger. I HAD to put down the chunky monkey and became a healthier eater. It all works together. Now, I get such a kick when ppl ask me my age and then that I Crossfit. The misconception in society of what “older” people can do is astounding. I feel better today than I did just two years ago thanks to paleo, wods and my trainers that encourage me to be better . Thanks CF I’m a believer :-)

This particular statement resonated with me as well. So glad to be a part of a supportive and encouraging CrossFit community.
