Just because it’s scary, doesn’t mean that you don’t do it...
The other day, I got into a discussion with my class about losing front teeth (it related to a book we were reading). I was telling my class the story of when I lost a front tooth at 19-years-old and it cost me thousands of dollars to replace it. Then I said, “That’s one thing I think of sometimes when I lift…If I drop the barbell on my face, it’d be a bummer if I knocked this tooth out”. As student looked at me and asked a question that seemed to have an obvious answer:
“Why do you do it if you could drop the barbell on your face? If you’re scared, why do you do it?”
Because…because..just because it’s scary doesn’t mean that you don’t do it…
Isn’t that life??
Applying to schools, applying for jobs, business ventures, relationships, starting a family, buying a home, etc…just because it’s scary, doesn’t give you the buy-out.
Julius Caesar is quoted as saying, “Cowards die many times before their deaths, but the valiant only taste death but once“.
Be valiant. Do things when they scare the crap out of you.
Go ahead and drop the barbell right on your face….Chances are, it will never happen, and even if it does, it will never be as bad as you expected. The rewards that stem from your bravery will certainly beat sitting on the sidelines…
