Growing up I danced competitively, traveling throughout the country and abroad to compete. In high school I added cheerleading to my repertoire of activities. So needless to say I was always very active. Then I went to college and a knee injury prevented me from dancing and cheering for a semester. I quickly learned the importance of physical activity in my life. After college I was lucky enough to attain my dream job as a technical fashion designer. But it wasn’t as fulfilling as I had hoped it to be. I often found myself stuck behind a computer, staring at the clock, wondering how much longer until I could leave and go workout. Working out was the highlight of my day.

Then one day while at work I had a major revelation. It was my “aha moment,” as I like to call it. There I was at my desk measuring a size 26 dress, that with my approval would be mass produced to sell on QVC. Why QVC? My boss informed me that “women of that size are too large to fit into clothes at the department store or are homebound due to their size.” Listening to this, while staring at the denim “tent” laying before me, broke my heart. I thought to myself “where is the gratification here? I’m not helping this person. I’m helping QVC make money off of discouraged and sedentary women across the country.” Something that I didn’t want to have any part of. I wanted to help these women turn their lives around. Not clothe them. Thus began my quest to attain a job in which I could help people feel better about themselves, educate them on how to obtain and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I wanted to change lives and creating size 26 dresses for QVC just wasn’t cutting it.

Soon after, I became certified through the American Fitness Association of America(AFAA) and found a job teaching body sculpting, kickboxing, cycling, and aqua aerobic classes at a local gym. I instantly fell in love with it! I was helping people and it felt good. It was the first time in my life that I actually enjoyed going to work.

In 2008, Lauren and Dave Plumey introduced me to CrossFit, just three months after the birth of my son. Stepping into my local CrossFit for the first time was incredibly intimidating. All the people were extremely fit, climbing ropes, doing pullups, and lifting very heavy barbells. I instantly thought I could never look like that and do what they are doing after having a baby. Well I was mistaken. With a little bit of perseverance, hard work and help from the wonderful CrossFit staff, I quickly shed the baby weight and became hooked on CrossFit’s credo and concepts. I feel stronger and more confident about myself today, then I have ever felt before. I believed in CrossFit so much that I decided to further my career in fitness by becoming a CrossFit trainer and owner. To me it’s the most efficient and effective way to workout. I can honestly say that I have one of the most gratifying jobs on the planet! My life now feels fulfilled knowing that I have the power to change lives for the better. And that’s what we are all about here at SCF…Changing lives!
