Jim Abbott (pictured left) was born without a fully developed right hand. You know the story, and even if ou didn’t, you can glean it from the photo: he played major league baseball.
No hand. I have two and I’ve never dreamed of playing even high school softball…
Abbott once said:
“It’s not the disability that defines you; it’s how you deal with the challenges the disability presents you with. We have an obligation to the abilities we DO have, not the disability.”
How about that for perspective? You have an OBLIGATION to the abilities you DO possess.
We all have abilities, regardless of who we are. True, some have more than others, but as long as we are above ground and breathing, we have have ’em; so use ’em.
“Woe is me” never got anyone anywhere. Focus on what’s left of you and cultivate it into something inspiring.
