Dear SCF Fam,
As we enter the new year, it's important to discuss a few things. After 14+ years in this industry, I know that attaining your fitness goals comes down to a few things:
To start, consistency. You don't have to work out 6 days a week to get fit, but moving every day in some capacity is extremely important to regulate your body weight as well as feeling good. Some of our fittest members train a consistent average of 3-4 days a week, but move daily, whether it's a hobby or walking.
Secondly, you can't out-train a bad diet. I would rather you workout 1 less day a week if it means you use that extra hour to food prep or grocery shop. Because if you're like me, I can exercise like a madman, and my body won't change much if at all. But eating cleaner, unprocessed foods most of the time is how I will ultimately look, feel, and perform the best.
Recovery is very important. If you want to build muscle, make sure you sleep and take rest days. If you want to lose body fat, make sure you sleep and take rest days. You want to hit your goals over these next 12 months....it's the same answer....make sure you sleep and take rest days. The body is an amazing organism and has the ability to build muscle, burn fat and heal. But you must let your body recover; otherwise, you're just breaking yourself down. In terms of sleep, not only will you feel stronger, but sleep is the most important tool in regulating your appetite.
There are many other variables regarding health and changing your body composition like hydration, stretching, stress management, etc. But I promise if you move daily, take the time to prep your meals, take rest days, and sleep, you'll eventually look and feel your best.
