This blog was originally about bringing a positive attitude to the gym, even on the days that you're struggling. My first draft discussed having an "all-in" mentality, wearing a smile, and having the right body language.
Then, Tuesday morning happened…
Coach Kelly was coaching, and my schedule appeared lighter, so I was finally able to take the 9 am class. It's been a few weeks since I've taken an actual class, so I desperately needed a good workout with friends. As I was dropping Asa off at school that morning, there was a pile-up that caused me to be a little late to class. No biggie right?! As I walked in the gym doors, all I could see was a gym filled with pollen. I immediately grabbed the leaf blower and started going hard on the gym floor, all while being heckled by my buddy Joe Derosa; I definitely deserved it. I ended up cutting my warm-up short, which is literally my favorite part of the hour. When the workout started, I didn't say anything encouraging, or smile, which is not my style, but I was already in my head about how the day started. I usually don't take my workouts too seriously, but for some reason, I was off. I know what you're going to say…"it happens", but I couldn't shake it that morning.
Here's where I'm going with this...
We all have bad days and can't always be chipper, but I think it's important to recognize that we all have some baggage from home and work. It's also important to recognize our daily attitude and the energy that we bring to the places where we're meant to be happy. This energy will, in most cases, attract others or push them away. In essence, it's the law of attraction. With this being said, I'm aware that I was a rotten apple on Tuesday morning and if it happens again, I'll run a penalty mile. But if you find yourself dragging in your "stuff" to the gym or any place for that matter too often, figure out a way to let it go, if only for 60 minutes. It will not only make your workout experience that much better but could possibly help someone who's been struggling right beside you.
